# Installation

> Download and install Scout on Windows or macOS.

Scout is available for Windows and macOS. Download the latest version from [scoutvoice.ai/download](https://scoutvoice.ai/download).

## Windows

    Download the installer from [scoutvoice.ai/download](https://scoutvoice.ai/download) and run it. Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because Scout is new — click **More info**, then **Run anyway**.

    Scout starts automatically after install. You'll see the Scout icon in your system tray.

## macOS

    Download the `.dmg` from [scoutvoice.ai/download](https://scoutvoice.ai/download), open it, and drag Scout to your Applications folder.

  <Step title="Launch Scout">
    Open Scout from your Applications folder. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it should launch without Gatekeeper warnings.

  <Step title="Grant permissions">
    Scout will show a permission guide for **Accessibility** and **Microphone** access. Both are required — see [Permissions](/troubleshooting/permissions) for details.

## Automatic updates

Scout checks for updates on startup. Depending on your settings, it either prompts you to install the update or installs it automatically and restarts.

## Uninstall

### Windows

Open **Settings → Apps → Installed apps**, find **Scout Voice**, and click **Uninstall**. This removes the app and its shortcuts. App data is stored in `%LocalAppData%\ai.scoutvoice.app` — delete that folder to remove all settings and cached data.

### macOS

Drag **Scout** from your Applications folder to the Trash. To remove app data, delete `~/Library/Application Support/ai.scoutvoice.app`.
