# Language

> Choose your dictation language or use auto-detect.

Scout supports dictation in multiple languages. You can set your language in **Settings → Language**.

## Supported languages

* English
* Spanish
* French
* German
* Italian
* Portuguese
* Auto-detect

## English vs Auto-detect

**English** — Optimized for English dictation. All features work: voice commands, vocabulary matching, question mark correction, and case transforms.

**Auto-detect** — The speech engine automatically detects the language of each phrase. This is useful if you switch between languages during dictation.

<Note>
  Some English-specific post-processing (like question mark correction) only runs when a phrase is detected as English. Core features like voice commands and vocabulary matching run regardless of the detected language.
</Note>

## Magic Edit language

[Magic Edit](/features/magic-edit) sends your spoken instruction to AI as transcribed. For best results, speak instructions in English.
