General settings control Scout’s startup behavior, context awareness, and other preferences. Access them in Settings → General.

Start on boot

When enabled, Scout launches automatically when you log in to your computer. This is on by default.

Auto-install updates

When enabled, Scout automatically downloads and installs updates on launch instead of prompting you. You can toggle this in Settings.

Context awareness

Context awareness helps Scout produce more accurate and naturally formatted text by reading context from your active window. How it works:
  1. Scout reads text from the focused text field, including any selected text and nearby content
  2. It also reads the active window title for additional context
  3. Key terms are extracted locally on your machine
  4. These terms are sent as hints to the speech engine to improve recognition accuracy
What it does NOT do:
  • It does not read content from other windows or background apps
  • No raw text content is sent to Scout’s servers — terms go directly to the speech engine as recognition hints
Context awareness is on by default. You can disable it in Settings → General if you prefer not to share any active-window context with the speech engine.
When context awareness is off, dictation still works normally — you may just see slightly less accurate spacing and term recognition in some cases.

Pulse

Controls the visual pulse animation that plays while Scout is listening.
